The De Arco Family Fund

Update from Lorraine as of June 30th, 2016.
July 01, 2016
We are asking help for our dear friend Lorraine De Arco and her mom Soledad De Arco. “Auntie Sol” suffered a stroke in June and was left with no use of her leg and arm on her right side, she is currently going through physical therapy to help regain strength and motor skills to speak. In addition to the stroke, it was discovered that Auntie Sol has been diagnosed with hormone-positive breast cancer. At this point the cancer has not spread beyond an abscess on her chest, and can hopefully be treated with hormone therapy rather than chemo or radiation. A complete diagnosis and long-term care plan is still being put together by her doctors. Auntie Sol retired from Walmart a couple of years ago and due to the limited medical coverage that she received through retirement, her copay for therapy has ended. She will continue to go through physical therapy, but at home rather than in a facility. Lorraine, Auntie Sol’s only child, has taken a leave from work since finding her mom on the floor of their home after the stroke. She has been practically living at the hospital by her mom’s side and going through this immense responsibility mainly on her own, but also with help of her close friends and limited family members. Lorraine also has limited financial options through the Family Medical Leave Act and her work. With medical expenses increasing and the loss of work to care for her mom, Lorraine is coming to a crossroads where she can use as much help as possible. So we are asking for any help you can provide, we are hoping to send this request far and wide and that it will provide some support for Lorraine and Auntie Sol. Thank you for helping with however much you can, and please send this to others who may be able to help.
