BENEFITING: AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
ELLA MAE PRICE JONES
Thank you for your love. This is a very, very special way for Ella Mae’s life to be honored and remembered.
On January 30, 1933, the sun rose on a lovely day into it was born little miss Ella Mae Price to her proud parents; Ike and Willa Mae. She was the second youngest of four girls - Mildred, Liz, Ella Mae, and Lillian. As fate would have it, over the years, all of her sisters would pass on before her but Ella Mae’s family remained tight-knit. When her youngest sister, Lillian passed away at the age of 38 in 1974, Ella Mae took on the responsibility of raising Lillian’s four children as well.
Ella Mae was always a vibrant and healthy woman. She married and had six beautiful children of her own; Dora, Charles, Ike, Willa, Henry and Sharon. Ella Mae was a great mother. She loved to take her children on family outings which included fishing trips and visits to the beach and amusement park at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. She was also an active member of her church. There, she was known as Mother Jones. She was an excellent cook and very smart. She worked hard over the years to provide for her family. She was also known for her sharpness with math and loved to play bingo. She had a generous heart, was very patient, she loved to laugh, dance and be around her family.
“In 1988, mom was diagnosed with breast cancer,” recalls Sharon Jones. “I remember that because that was the year that I went into the field of corrections and also graduated from the Corrections Academy. My mom was in the hospital recovering from a single mastectomy on my graduation day. She was on my mind because I knew that if she could be there with me, she would have. Her strong spirit helped me to press on then, just as it does now that she is no longer physically here with me.” Sharon adds, “… and she was always very supportive of me and my brothers and sisters. My mother was a fighter. My mother was strong. She instilled that same spirit into her children. That spirit is inside of me.”
In 2007, Ella Mae suffered a stroke. Her family rallied around her and she had a slow but almost total recovery. Then towards the end of 2009, she started again to not feel well and as she was going back and forth to the doctor trying to find out what was ailing her, Sharon decided to move herself and her mom back down south to a home of their own and provide her with a slower pace of living, surround her with the beauty and nature of the country life that she grew up in and also the love of her family. That was in April, 2011. Ella Mae got the chance to enjoy those things and the next several months were filled with love as she was again, diagnosed with cancer. She was such a strong, resilient woman and fought a long fight against it but eventually, Ella Mae succumbed.
Mrs. Ella Mae Price Jones, left this world as we know it at the age of 79 on March 6, 2012. She is survived by four of her children, Dora, Willa, Ike and Sharon and a host of loving family and friends. In her loving memory, we have set up this page so that those of you who have been emailing and contacting the family will have a way to show your love and support and also help someone else in the process. The family is thankful for you and grateful for you all.

The 23rd Psalm
The LORD Is My Shepherd
A Psalm of David.
(1) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. (2) He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. (3) He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. (4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. (5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. (6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
