Our mission is to open up the mountains through learn-to-ski or snowboard programs to kids who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity. This past January 2014, The First Chair funded 36 kids into multi-session programs. 26 kids were enrolled into the five week ski/snowboard school at Wolf Mountain in Eden, Utah and 10 kids into the eight week program at Cochran's in Richmond, Vermont. The First Chair hired transportation, collected soft goods (hats, jackets, ski pants, mittens etc.), and funded ski-school enrollment (avg. cost $129.25 total per individual). We went into January 2014 with just about what we needed, $4,650. This year we have bumped up our goal and would like to fund 100 kids into our program starting January 2015, but we need to start today. I don't know how else to say this... A lot of these kids deal with way too much and our program was an awesome bright light for them. With your help we can continue to grow and make a difference. If you have any further questions or comments please call E.D.- Michael McKenney @ 801.528.8949, or Dev. Dir.- David Spencer @ 310.428.3416, or visit thefirstchair.org. Thank you in advance. *admin always kept to under 20%, (i.e. if you give us $10 we may hold up to $2 max for insurance or a similar operating expense). We currently have a 501c3 fiscal sponsor (http://www.homeandcommunity.org/) that processes donations and remits payment to the businesses we work with (ski-schools, buses, etc.). Sabrina at Home and Community has been an awesome mentor and now that we have a clue, we intend to obtain our own 501c3 designation.
