The First Cuban / USA Amateur Radio Exhibition
Organized by: James Millner
EVENT DATE Oct 21, 2015
USA and Cuban Amateur Radio Operators will be joining together as a team during the week of October 21, 2015 to compete in a worldwide radio competition and radio exhibition. The purpose of the radio competition is for Cuban and American Amateur Radio Operators to join together as a team to compete against other radio operators around the world. This Exhibition is one of the first of its kind given the political environment of recent years. The purpose of this event is to utilize our hobby as a way of promoting good will between the people of Cuba and the United States. The average salary in Cuba is approximately $300 annually. This prevents the average Cuban Amateur Radio operators from obtaining and providing state of the art radio equipment for the operation. The USA Team is completely self-funded which limits our ability to competitively complete this task. If we are successful in raising this capital, we plan to spend the money on securing a location from which to operate the exhibition and purchasing radio equipment that can be used during the event. Since there is currently an embargo on importing electronics into Cuba, our plan is to take equipment purchased and brought into and out of Cuba during the event and store it until the Cuban embargo is lifted. When the embargo is lifted, all equipment purchased will be donated to the Cuban Amateur Radio Federation to be distributed to less fortunate Amateur Radio Operators . The Amateur Radio call sign given to the team by the Cuban government and which will be broadcasted out of Havana, Cuba, will beT42US. The call letters combine the radio prefix (T42) for Cuba and the suffix (US) for the United States of America. This is a monumental moment in Amateur Radio and we hope that you will provide help by contributing to our cause.
