THE STORY:

Kid Power Unicef wrote -

Over the past 18 years, my friend and I have seen every Star Wars movie in a movie theatre. This year I was diagnosed with lung cancer. My family and I are so grateful for the support we have received from our friends and family. So, we decided to invite our community of support to see Star Wars. The response has been overwhelming. We have booked an entire theatre, and as gesture of gratitude will treat our family and friends to a movie and an afterparty.

While my circumstances may have brought us together, this event is not about me – it's about a community coming together and sharing positive energy. In that spirit, if you wish to donate to charity, we have selected UNICEF Kid Power which is sponsored by Star Wars: Force for Change - a charitable initiative from Disney and Lucasfilm.

When you donate, you will support UNICEF Kid Power and help children around the world grow up healthy. Built for a new generation of global citizens, Kid Power inspires kids to take action and help save the lives of children in developing countries with literally every step they take.

How it works: Kids wear Kid Power wristbands which measure their physical activity while they get active. The more kids move, the more food they give to children in need. Activity and movement unlock Kid Power Points. These are converted to funding by partners, and funds are used by UNICEF to deliver lifesaving packets of therapeutic food to severely malnourished children.

Kids engaged with UNICEF Kid Power are 55% more active than their peers, and over 12,000 kids have harnessed their energy to donate over 188,000 packets of food.

By making a 100% tax-deductible donation to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF today, you can help children in the U.S. and around the world grow up healthy.

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF's spending practices meet the highest standards of Charity Navigator and the Better Business Bureau. Of every dollar spent, 90.2 cents goes toward programs and services that directly help children; only 7.1 cents is spent on fundraising costs and 2.7 cents on administration.
