BENEFITING: The Fortune Society
ORGANIZER: The Fortune Society
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
I am proud to be running the ING New York City marathon on November 3, 2013 in support of the Fortune Society, a social service and advocacy organization founded in 1967 whose mission is near and dear to my heart.
Fortune's work focuses on strengthening the fabric of our communities by supporting successful reentry of individuals from prison and promoting alternatives to incarceration. They are on-the-ground, making a difference every day in the lives of thousands of individuals through a model program that continues to be replicated across the country. Too many citizens are incarcerated for far too long; Fortune's programs are proven to prevent recidivism and encourage positive and successful reintegration into society. Everyone deserves a second chance, and Fortune is that rare organization putting substance, meaning and true opportunity behind that phrase.
Among the many other reasons that I support Fortune is my hope that, one day soon, William Kuenzel, the innocent client on Alabama's death row whom I've represented for many years, will be able to take full advantage of its resources.
I am honored to support Fortune as a runner, fundraiser, and as the Team's Coach. I would be grateful for any amount you can contribute towards my fundraising goal. Every penny you donate will be put to its highest use by the heroes who have spent almost half a century building Fortune into the venerable New York City charity that it is today.
About the Fortune Society: The Fortune Society is a nonprofit social service and advocacy organization, founded in 1967. Fortune works to create a world where all who are incarcerated or formerly incarcerated can become positive, contributing members of society. They do this through a holistic, one-stop model of service provision, based on more than 40 years of experience working with people with criminal records. Without a solid foundation in core skill areas, too many of these individuals resort to the self-destructive choices that result in crime and incarceration. Fortune's continuum of care, informed and implemented by professionals with cultural backgrounds and life experiences similar to those of our clients, helps ensure their success.
