BENEFITING: FOUNDATION FOR LIVING BEAUTY
I am coming up to 4 years cancer free this December. It is amazing to think that it has been 41/2 years since I was diagnosed. I feel better about myself now then I did before having breast cancer, and I owe that all to The Foundation For Living Beauty. When I look in the mirror I do not see my scars as imperfections, but view them proudly as the scars of a warrior that fought hard, stayed strong and positive through the fight, and came out victorious in the end; winning the battle against breast cancer. Self-acceptance is a powerful tool, had it not been for the unconditional acceptance, love, and support I receive from the woman I have met, I know I would not feel this way, as they are the most inspiring and amazing women. They are truly a gift that keeps on giving, as our friendships deepen and our sisterhood expands as women join our circle. They humble and inspire me everyday.
Although my "new normal" is different then it was before, attending the wellness retreats and classes that The FFLB offers, and being surrounded by the woman who attend, I have learned to be more forgiving of myself, to realize the strength I possess, to embrace myself for who I now am, and to celebrate my accomplishments. I leave empowered with all I have learned, uplifted by the experiences and enriched by the woman I am with.
The Foundation For Living Beauty’s mission is “To Empower Women, To Increase Their Physical Wellness And Emotional Stability While Coping With The Taxing Effects Of Cancer And Cancer Treatments”.
“Functioning as an activity and service-oriented organization dedicated to uplifting the lives of women touched by cancer, The FFLB provides free services to help women living with cancer and who are cancer survivors address the stresses that extend beyond their medical diagnosis.”
“Woman battling cancers deserve the best chance for survival.” Setting The FFLB apart from other cancer foundations, it “responds to the psychosocial needs that are often missed or under-supported by medical professionals, but are critical determinants in health outcomes. Addressing the physical and emotional fronts of cancer, proper educational & nutritional support, modified physical activity, and a supportive socio-emotional environment that is so critical to helping them improve their health outcomes”. The FFLB “focuses on celebrating life and accessing the healing power of connectedness in order to increase hope and integrative therapy effectiveness”.
The FFLB provides three and four day wellness retreats and integrative therapy programs like, “yoga4cancer”, meditation, visual mediation, nutrition and cooking classes, aromatherapy healing oil classes and massage, and days of beauty; to name a few. We leave empowered with what we have learned, decreased in stress by what we have experienced, and uplifted from the love, support and unconditional acceptance we get from one another. Our emotional health is increased and our physical pain is decreased, both essential components to thriving through a cancer diagnosis, its treatment, and the permanent side effects of chemotherapy that affect us as cancer survivors. The bonds we build with one another heal our souls, lifting our spirits and enriching our lives in ways that cannot be put into words. We are united as one, bound by a sisterhood so strong that conversations are had without a spoken word, our eyes doing the talking for us.
With all services provided by The Foundation of Living Beauty being free, the woman that tirelessly work hard to make all of our experiences both wonderful and meaningful are amazing unto themselves, with only nine cents of every dollar raised going to administrative costs.
No amount is too small, and with every dollar you donate, at a time when they need it the most, you are personally allowing someone who has been touched by cancer to heal in ways no doctor or medication can ever provide.
I thank you with all of my heart.
