Our mission is to address the issues of blight, poverty and unemployment within the City of Detroit. To date, these efforts have included coordinating monthly community clean-ups during the summer; adopting and cleaning Calcara Park, a neglected park; and partnering to formulate and participate in the Framework and Resources for Empowering Environment (FREE) Project, a pilot beautification program that will take place on 16 parcels of vacant land located within the McDougall-Hunt neighborhood, a once vibrant and thriving community.
Currently, these parcels are blighted by overgrown brush and trees that the community cannot service with common tools. As a result of the blight, the area is unsafe for children and all residents who live in the neighborhood. The “FREE” Project will partner with Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) local Disadvantage Business Enterprises (DBEs). Access for All Skilled Trades Apprentices will do the initial work of eliminating the overgrown brush and trees. Once the parcels are cleared, the Bailey Park Project and community residents will work together to maintain the newly manageable lots.
This partnership will provide the local Small Business Participants with the skills and knowledge to make competitive bids on future projects with MDOT while providing residents a cleaner and safer environment. Your donations will go towards the purchase of (A) liability insurance and planting materials that is needed to complete the initial phases, (B) professional grade landscaping equipment, which will be used to maintain the lots once they are in a manageable state, and (C) placemaking and business development platform, which will be used to recruit and train local entrepreneurs to develop services and programming in community space. All contributions to the Bailey Park Project are exempt from Income Tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue. All donors will receive a receipt for their contributions. We ask that you donate to help us revitalize the McDougall-Hunt Community.
