BENEFITING: LOUISVILLE GUITAR SOCIETY INC
EVENT DATE: Jul 18, 2016
The Ghana National Music Festival is a project that fulfills two key goals: First, is to promote the development and education of classical music in Ghana's youth and the second goal is to promote international collaboration between Ghana and the United States.
This is not only Ghana's first ever classical music festival but it's also the first collaborative effort at this level between the two countries. We will offer private instrumental lessons, ensemble work, masterclasses, academic classes, concerts and more! The whole experience will be a non-stop barage of music education.
I had the opportunity to go to Ghana in July of this year to do a sort of surveying trip for the project. While I was there I met with the Director of the Music Department at the University of Ghana, the Director of the Ghanaian National Symphony Orchestra, members of SKYY broadcasting company, as well as phone conferenced with representatives of the U.S. Embassy Cultural Affairs Department. I can say that the response from all parties was beyond enthusiastic!
There is such a huge desire for a program like this to take place in Ghana. We have secured the University of Ghana as our host, the National Symphony for a performance and use of their musicians as faculty, and broadcasting services from at least one major broadcasting company in Ghana. While there we had a commitment of twenty-one students to the festival. That was over half of our original student capacity.
To have such a huge response from the Ghanaian people just shows me that a program like this is long over due. As Director of this festival I hope you'll take time to peruse the crowdfunding page, Facebook page, and website!
The GNMF is excited to be sponsored by the Louisville Guitar Society, a non profit 501(c)3 organization that has already taken the initiative to promote our efforts.
