Grace Oughton was my first pediatric patient as a medical student at the University of Virginia. At the age of 19 months she was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of childhood cancer called neuroblastoma. Sadly, we lost her in 2007, but her spirit lives on through The Grace Oughton Cancer Foundation (GOCF) started by her amazing parents (Alec and Crystal), friends, and family. The GOCF raises money to support local families with children diagnosed with pediatric cancers and to fund pediatric cancer research.
I hope to one day to be more actively involved with GOCF, but until then I'll try to raise as much money as possible for them through races and local fundraisers.
I'm going to be honest and say that I'm not very well prepared for this half marathon this time, but I am hoping some good comes out of my physical pain. Please consider donating to this cause which is near and dear to my heart. Thanks so much!
