Helping Seniors

Our Mission is to provide seniors and retirees a rewarding and meaningful Jewish experience during the senior years.

The Golden Network:

The Need:

Montgomery County is home to a large number of Jewish Seniors. In addition to seniors living in private homes, Leisure World has 3,500 Jewish residents, Five Star in Chevy Chase has 160 and Riderwood 400.
Many of these retirees and senior citizens need to and want to connect to their Jewish Heritage but are lacking the opportunity or resources to do so.
Local organizations including The Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning, JSSA, JCC, The Jewish Federation as well as many Rabbis from the Greater Washington Jewish Community agree that the Elderly desperately need an organization devoted to enhancing their Jewish awareness and spiritual growth. They need access to the comfort and answers which Jewish traditions can provide.

The Response:

An organization to provide rewarding and meaningful Jewish experience during the senior years:
The Golden Network.

The Activities:

Since its inception in September 2011, The Golden Network has sought to fulfill its goal through programming for both groups and individuals, in Retirement facilities and in the community at large.
Our lecture series has covered many topics including: “What does it mean to be Rich?”, “The Roots of Love”, “Don’t Drive Yourself Meshuga”, “Successful Living”, “Appreciating Life”, “The Power of Speech” and “How to Retire the Jewish Way”.
Bi-monthly concerts build a bridge to pleasant memories and warm feelings through music.
Holiday food packages are delivered to private homes and retirement facilities.
Individual sessions, both scheduled and as needed provide companionship, support, guidance, teaching and friendship.
To date, lectures and concerts have been arranged and in 22 facilities and synagogues with hundreds attending. 60 individuals participate in the One-on-One program on a continuing basis.  A staff of a 18 volunteers contribute to the lecture series, conduct lessons by phone, perform in the concert series and assist with administrative duties.
