On Saturday, September 10, 2011, the Park Slope Armory YMCA will host The Great 108- a yoga event in support of the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.
What's the Great 108? Whether you're a novice or seasoned yogi this event welcomes everyone. Join us as we practice 108 salutations to raise funds and awareness of the growing need to support our community through the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign.
The Strong Kids Campaign is our annual fundraising initiative that works to raise money to support our programs and provide financial assistance to those in need, while creating awareness of the demand for services in our neighborhood. Every dollar counts. That’s because 100% of the tax-deductible contributions made through the Strong Kids Campaign directly supports Y programs and membership needs.
Each year we serve almost 35,000 community members, 12,000 being youth and teens, by providing quality programs that build spirit, mind and body. Our free Y Afterschool, located at 11 off-sites spanning from Park Slope to Coney Island, provides care and educational assistance for over 900 youth and teens; 50% of our more than 600 summer campers enroll for free or on financial assistance and all of our special needs campers participate at half of the program cost; the New Americans Welcome Center is a safe haven for immigrants and supports over 2,000 enrollments in our language, literacy and citizenship classes each year completely free of charge; we have been able to provide assistance to hundreds of members in financial crisis; and we are excited to launch our new Teen Center this year located at our annex, the Park Slope Armory YMCA.
Without the support of the community through the Strong Kids Campaign none of this would be possible. We hope that you'll commit to helping your neighbor by contributing to the Strong Kids Campaign. We’re stronger when we work together.
How can you help?
Join our Team! By joining the team you are securing a space at The Great 108 and committing to raising $100 for the Strong Kids Campaign.
Make a donation! Yoga may not be your thing, but we'd love for you to make a donation in support of the YMCA and in support of someone participating in The Great 108. Cheer someone on by helping them support in what they believe- leveling the playing field for children and families in need.
or contribute your amount of choice!
