The Happy Tree San Marcos.
Organized by: Sara Reeder
We would like to open a recreation center in San Marcos, TX that provides a safe place for children and families to spend time together while building relationships and community. We want to provide recreation as well as early learning classes featuring art, music, and science for the children of the community and their parents. San Marcos has a 33.6% poverty rate. This rate is double the national average. The children and families of this community need a positive, inexpensive outlet that encourages learning and social development. Because of this need and the extremely high poverty rate in San Marcos, we will offer scholarships each month for those who cannot afford to pay the entrance fee. We want all of the children in our community to be able to participate. San Marcos is widely viewed as a college town; therefore, most businesses are geared towards college students, leaving the children of San Marcos little to no options for recreation and social development. All of the money raised will go directly to the buildout of the facility including instillation of A/C units, flooring, walls, and recreation equipment.
