The helper now needs some help...
Organized by: Angela Young
About 13 year ago I got a staph infection that wasn't diagnosed until it got really bad. That lead to other infections and multiple surgeries. At this time I've had 27 surgeries and now I need another. I have survived multiple staph infections, a streptococcus infection, and flesh eating disease. (necrotising fasciitis put me in a coma for 6 days) Doctors have told my family a few times in my life that I would not survive yet I'm still here. They say I have a heck of a will to live. Since it's so complicated they can't do this next surgery locally. I need to go to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD (3 hours and tolls away) and have a team of surgeons fix the things that are falling apart and put me back together. Maryland law protected the doctor and hospital that gave me the infection and left me hanging. I live on $730 a month so that means there is nothing left after I pay my monthly expenses. Social Services won't help me with transportation costs or provide me with a ride since I have an old car. I've done my best to not screw the system and be conscious of what things cost. I am use to being the helper and not the one that needs the help. Any money left over will be used to see an eye doctor and get glasses (desperately needed) and a couple teeth pulled. Thanks for your consideration.
