When you lose someone to a disease or whatever you lose a loved one to, the first thing you might think about is maybe doing some charity work or fundraiser for whatever caused your loved one to leave this world. I knew that when Emerson was diagnosed with Cancer I wanted to do some type of fund, charity work, fundraiser etc. but I honestly did not want it to do with cancer. About two months ago I went to my first meeting with a grieving counselor at the OUR HOUSE GRIEF AND SUPPORT CENTER. Can I just tell you how relieved, amazing and happy I felt when I left that place. I will begin my first grieving group meet this coming Tuesday. I am actually REALLY excited about it. I know how much at this point I REALLY need it. Its hard to associate with others when they really don't know how you feel deep down inside & honestly it is completely difficult to even explain. Many people always ask, how are you doing? your initial response is GREAT! I am GOOD! Wonderful! Never been better! At least that's what I do. Having a place to go to and basically tell someone who is going through the exact thing as you at the same time frame, at the same age, from the same situation is sort of a blessing. Being able to have a place to go to where they know your "I am doing great" bull sh*! is actually very relieving and just peaceful. I think Besides keeping sane with God in my life I also need that support from those that are actually walking the same pain as me. This is why I decided to support this support center. On April 26th Aiden, Alicia & I (and any family member/friend that wants to join us) will be doing a 5K & a family 5K walk/run to support this center continue what they do for people like me! This is the RUN FOR HOPE 5K which is a day to honor the memory and celebrate the lives of those close to us who have died. "Our House" is not a place where you go and pay thousands of dollars to have others hear you cry or complain. It is a place where any donation amount is taken in order to participate, a place where you meet with your group for 18 months, a place where you make amazing friendships, a place where you can just go and be understood, a place where even your children can go and understand their own feelings. Besides this amazing center OUR HOUSE also has a summer grieving camp for kids on top of a grief meets for kids which is completely FREE for both but also needs the support from the community to continue running it every year. So please donate anything you can to our fundraiser! Anything helps... $1 even cents... Thank you!
