EVENT: The Take Your Base 5k
EVENT DATE: Jun 29, 2013
I am trying to outrun 40...in about 40 days, I turn 40! As most of you know, I ran my first 5k ever last week and I am about to run my 2nd one next week. This one I am doing to raise money for HOPE! There is nothing I would like better for my 40th then to have my friends and family donate between $1 and $40 to HOPE in honor of my attempt to outrun my birthday!
As many of you know, I've been passionate about The HOPE Program since i started working there over a year and a half ago. For those of you who have not heard me talk about HOPE… here’s a little flavor of our awesome work!
The HOPE Program is a workforce development organization that serves men and women living in poverty. Our students have barriers that prevent them from gaining employment, including histories of substance abuse, an incarceration history, lack of education or high school degree, and homelessness.
But at HOPE we empower our students to achieve economic self-sufficiency through training and career advancement. We provide the tools, including basic math, literay and computer training, resume prep and mock interviews and general work place readiness, to help these men and women overcome their personal challenges so they can get a job.
We have a record of success. The numbers would show you that. But really you see our success in the face of someone who got a job for the first time in years. You see it when someone shows off their GED certificate. You see it when a proud HOPE graduate comes back to our office, with their kids, to tell us about their job promotion and how they can now move into a bigger apartment, so their child can have their own room. It’s in the tears of success. It’s in the hugs…
We do life-changing work. I couldn't be prouder.
Every dollar raised for The HOPE Program – is one more dollar that will help a New Yorker struggling to get out of poverty, gain the knowledge and training that he or she needs to gain employment and build there career.
Thank you so much!
