The House That Beer Built
Crafting a Home and Hope
Knoxville Habitat for Humanity, Yee-Haw Brewing and the local craft beer community is collaborating to celebrate the craft beer industry in our area. The House That Beer Built is an exciting event that brings local brewers together to build a home for a family in our community.
Knoxville Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to providing strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter in our community. Knoxville Habitat believes in giving families a “hand up” rather than a hand out and knows that a safe and stable home is vital for the success of a family. While the physical structure of the home is important, the success of Habitat family partners is achieved through the comprehensive homeowner education program. Homeowners must complete 500 hours of “sweat equity” by taking classes such as a weekly budgeting class, home maintenance classes and a construction class. Contrary to belief, Habitat for Humanity does not give away homes for free. In order to be accepted into the Habitat program, families must meet three criteria, 1) a need for housing 2) willingness to partner 3) ability to make mortgage payments. Knoxville Habitat sells the home that are build at a 0-profit cost and 0% interest making the home affordable for families who do not qualify for a traditional mortgage loan.
