The Jewel of Vicenza, is a model of the City of Vicenza (Italy)
made in silver in 1578, a work traditionally attributed
the brilliant gold-artist George Capobianco, designed by Andrea
Palladio, father of the American architecture. Was offered by the citizens to Our Lady of Mount Berico to ward off the plague. The model was destroyed
by the troops of Napoleon's government in 1797.
In September 2010 the committee chaired by David Fiore
the winner was the project architect. Roman Basin
The adventure continues in 2011 with the aim of giving in Vicenza
and its citizens work of art that will combine the best of
ancient goldsmith techniques with the best technologies available today
and for which the joint participation becomes essential
of the people and the professionalism of the goldsmith shops in the area.
Creativity of this new life will return to Vicenza
commitment of individuals, institutions and professionals
involved today as back in 1578. The project is sponsored by
the City of Vicenza.
In September 2010 a competition for young architects has virtually rebuilt the jewel with a deep research of historic features and documentaries. The 30 kg of silver have been donated by the citizens of Vicenza, with a charity initiative. Now it aims to create 20,000 US dollars for recreate the jewel (casting process). The master silversmith Carlo Rossi will works by hand for to the finish and detail (almost 2,000 hours work), using the techniques of the sixteenth century goldsmith. All committee members are working for free for this masterpiece that will become assets of the city of Vicenza and its citizens.
