THE STORY:

The Jim Leedy project is accepting funding to create and install a heroic metal sculpture in the crossroads art district. Mayor of Kansas City Mark Funkhouser declared Jim Leedy, PhD the grandfather of the world renowned mixed uses creative zone located between Union Station to the south and I-70 to the north in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Zahner company an internationally acclaimed engineering and fabricator located in Kansas City, know for the use of metal in the world of art, has been chosen to translated Jim's vision into a reality.  "Captured Energy" a 1969 water color drawing suggests the genral mood of all public proposals.  The stainless wrapped steal pole supports a stainless tilted platform as a cloud like burst of marine red flows mystically through two evenly placed round holes.  Prepetuial motion is suspended in a  permenant snap shot of captured energy. The static billow is being made using a patent pending metal material co-owned by Zahner Metals and Kansas City artist and project technition Reilly Hoffman.  Fellow art patrons help celebrate the genius and legacy of Jim Leedy retired 40 year KCAI professor and the father of abstract expressionist ceramics. We are seeking donations in the form of cash, volunteers and in-kind. Please help any way you can.

It’s all about now, Jim Leedy insists: “on some level I’ve always known that I could be dead in thirty minutes, so I’m a fanatic; I give one hundred percent, whatever I’m doing.”1 It is this fundamental belief that propels the Dionysian output of Leedy’s oeuvre, and that also guides him in his multiple roles as artist, professor, gallerist, and community arts leader. But what fuels the teaching, curating, and arts administration for Leedy is the art-making process itself.
