"My Uncle John started this Kayak-a-thon three years ago to support the Arthur C. Luf Children's Burn Camp and has raised almost $10,000! Last summer I rode in the support boat. This summer my relay team will join Uncle John in paddling 25 miles across Cape Cod Bay, from Sandwich to Provincetown!
I attended the Burn Camp for ten years, beginning when I was 8 years old, and now plan to become a counselor. In addition to all the fun activities such as archery, firefighter games, arts & crafts, paintball, ropes course and the waterfront, Burn Camp is a place where life long friendships are made and lives are changed everyday.
It is hard to recover from a situation that affects you both physically and mentally, but being surrounded by adults and peers who understand exactly what you are going through makes a world of a difference. Through this experience, I have learned to love and accept myself exactly the way I am, scars and all. I would give up anything to help a struggling child recieve the same support I did from Burn Camp when I was growing up.
The counselors and staff at The Arthur C. Luf Children's Burn Camp (in Union, CT) are all voulunteers and the week is completely free to those attending. Please help us send kids to camp, not only will it brighten their summer, but it will change their lives forever."
Children's Burn Camp Mission Statement
The Children's Burn Camp is a safe natural outdoor environment for kids ages 8 to 18 from around the world who have survived life altering burn injuries. We encourage camaraderie coupled with physical and social activities to develop their serf-worth. Activities are designed to help campers overcome anxieties, develop and enhance their physical skills and allow them to move beyond their scarring and burn injuries.
