BENEFITING: The Kelly Gibson Foundation
ORGANIZER: The Kelly Gibson Foundation
EVENT DATE: Apr 04, 2015
On Saturday, April 4th, I'll be running in the 37th annual 10k Crescent City Classic to raise funds for Youth Run NOLA & the Kelly Gibson Foundation. I discovered Youth Run shortly after moving to New Orleans less than a year ago and have been running with them on a weekly basis ever since.
Youth Run NOLA is a non-profit organization that serves 11 to 18 year-olds in St. Bernard, Orleans, and Jefferson parishes from September to April. Guided by teacher-coaches at school-based chapters and volunteer running buddies at monthly events, students — many with little or no prior experience running — prepare for a year-end 10K and/or half-marathon through a demanding course of training aligned with current best practices for exercise and nutrition. In the process, they not only learn the keys to living healthy, but also develop the discipline, camaraderie, and sustained work ethic that forge success on the course, in the classroom, and in their community.
Your donation will be going to a great cause that will continue to provide continued opportunities for these students to participate in races throughout the city, and train with coaches and running buddies after school several times a week. Thanks in advance for any donation you may be able to make!
The Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic is produced by the Crescent City Fitness Foundation, a 501C3 non-profit entity. The funds and positive impact of the “Run For It” Program are important to the success of the Crescent City Fitness Foundation’s mission, and the Classic is proud to support local charities and their fundraising endeavors.
