The Lazy Cat Café & Bookstore Project is a vision for a new community space in Gainesville, Florida. Inspired by long-time resident, Anne D'amico and her love of books, cats, coffee, and community. Please help her dreams become a reality by funding Gainesville's first cat café and bookstore! But here's the catch: Each time you donate, you have a chance to contribute in a very tangible way. Shoot us a message, and share your ideas with us on what you'd like to see with this project! The more you share your creative or strategic ideas with us, the more impact you will have in your community. Here's some history about cat cafés, if you're wondering what the heck it is: Cat cafés are hygenic, supervised spaces where cats can be enjoyed, whether in the background to watch, or to be played with. The first cat café opened in Taiwan in 1998, and then slowly spread to Japan, where there are currently 250 establishments. Because pets are prohibited in Tokyo apartments, these cafés were the perfect solution for people of all ages to come together and relax with a feline friend. More recently, cat cafés have spread to the United States, providing a space for people to meet together, eat, work, study and even adopt a furry friend. All cats are provided by local animal shelters and have up-to-date vaccinations.
