BENEFITING: PHILADELPHIA SERENGETI ALLIANCE INC
Scenario: Welcome to the Kowak village in Tanzania. This area of Tanzania is very close to the Serengeti National Park and the Kenyan border. This area of Tanzania experiences the worst water insecturity issues of all of Tanzania only experiencing 2in of rain a year. The dry season is 8 months long causing a big desperation for water. Currently women and children walk close to 5 miles a da to get water from a lake in the Serengeti national park that is being shared with animals. Children have to carry water jugs close to 45lbs to and from this lake and risk being attacked by animals and refugees. Children, mostly girls, are missing out on going to school and getting a proper education because they spend all day getting water. They know the water they bring back is not clean. This water contains diseases like dysentary, Chlorea, and Hepatitis A/B. Children do not have the immune system to fight off these diseases which is why water related diseases is the number one killer of children in developing countries. This all can change, there are solutions!
Solution: We will build a water well much closer to Kowak village. How we plan on doing this is by working with Tanzanian parliament members and Tanzanian contractors to help us in building a well with the best quality. We have been working with the community to really make sure a water well is what they really do need and want. The community is willing to volunteer their time and effort in building the actual well project. We currently have contractors working right now as you read this conducting water quality surveys and have picked the most optimal location to build an actual well. Our main goal is to lower water related diseases both from long walks and from water related diseases. All our projects have a focus on promoting education, women and gender equality, and sustainability. Education will be accomplished when children will be able to get a proper education and attend school instead of getting water all day. women will be able to work and will also have as say in any water projects. Sustainability will be accomplished when we establish a water well committee which is in charge of maintaining the water well once we leave and will all be well trained in well maitnence as well.
This all can become a reality we just need your help!
Fundraising: We greatly appreciate any donation and even a dollar can make a big difference.
Each person that donates can donate as much as they want, as many times as well. Once the campaign is over, who ever raises the most will come with me to a traditional Tanzanian dinner in Philly. So tell your family, friends, teachers, EVERYONE.
