My name is Demi Knight Clark. If you know me, you probably know my story. If you don't, here's the story that is worth telling! On April 15, 2013, I ran the 117th Boston Marathon. As I crossed the finish line with my family (husband & two elementary-school-aged daughters) watched, the first bomb detonated 20 yards to my left. As I stood watching what followed - horrific images in front and behind me, nails & glass at my feet - life forever changed for us all. As an entrepreneur and a recent certified Integrative Health Coach from a program at Duke, I was also health coaching Soldiers downrange in Afghanistan at the time. They were the first to say, "So what, now what, Demi? You're still here - forget your backstory, your trauma. Look forward. Your mission continues." Because of them, I never stopped running - and never will. I credit being able to get over my post-traumatic stress (something I deal with every day) to those very Soldiers - and also understand a very small window into their world - assimilating back into a "normal" world after a series of trigger incidents. It's my duty to return to Boston - to show resilience and that no matter what happens, "I still rise." It's also what I owe the Soldiers who selflessly serve every day. It's the only way I know how to thank them. My biggest goal in 2014: "I inspire & ignite passion within to ACHIEVE DREAMS for MILLIONS OF PEOPLE around the world." If that is through telling the story of how over 1 million returning veterans NEED us, that is my duty! Please help us today!
