BENEFITING: TACONIC RESOURCES FOR INDEPENDENCE INC
EVENT DATE: Aug 29, 2010
CONTEST DETAILS - You could win DOUBLE your donation to one of your own projects! Sound good? Check it out ... Everybody who donates to my Limpathon gets a guess at how long it will take for me to finish the 4km walk (google tells me that’s about 2.5 miles :), closest to the time I finish in gets a donation to the project of their choice, double whatever you donated!
A few things you need to know: we are given a timing chip to put in our shoe, and official times are published online so NO I can’t lie about the time I complete the walk in LOL. Also, while Wiki tells me that average walking speed is 4.8 km/h, or about 3 miles per hour, I of course have a FrankenFoot (see picture) which will probably slow me down. I have not tried any kind of major walking event since I broke my foot, so it is really anybody’s guess as to how long it will take me to finish!
Jasmin - 59 minutes
Mae - 1 hr
Michele - 2 hours 5 mins
Jaime - 50 mins
Adrianne - 2 hours 7 mins
Patricia - 2 hours 45 minutes
On the 29th of August I will be partaking in Perth's annual "City to Surf" fundraiser. This event is held each year to raise money for the Activ foundation, which is one of WA’s leading community benefit organisations and has been providing services and support to people with a developmental disability since 1951. At the same time I thought - why not use crowdrise to raise money for a US based charity who do the same kind of work? I found Taconic Resources for Independence on Rae's fundraiser page http://www.crowdrise.com/raeatmhis ... I took a look and they seemed pretty awesome, so YAY.
I should point out that I am *only* doing the 4km walk option in the event - if you'll take a look at the *lovely* picture to your left, you might appreciate why. Yes, that is my foot. If it looks nasty trust me, it felt much worse. Anywho, 4km is still a LONG way for me to walk (running is out of the question) so I hope you won't think me a wimp for not doing the full 42km marathon - I'll leave THOSE kinds of efforts to the likes of our esteemed Tsar Edward ;) So please donate some money to *either* of the charities I've listed (I've put a link to the Australian donation page up the top if anyone is so inclined) and I'll let you know how I go on the day. Thanks for your support. ♥
