BENEFITING: MOTHER A M SMITH COMMUNITY CENTER
The mission of the Mother A.M. Smith Community Center is to meet the needs of the community by providing guidance and activities to assist our at-risk youth population and their families. The Smith Community Center is located exclusively on the South side of Barberton where the majority of the low to moderate income families live, but we are here to assist everyone in the community, the city and abroad that may need assistance. We are getting ready to break ground on a brand new facility... H.O.P.E. Community Center (Helping Our People Excell) the summer of 2017. H.O.P.E Center was developed out of two 501c3 organizations. Those organizations are Mother A.M. Smith Community Center and North Star of Excellence, Inc. Our goal is to see that this vision comes true for the community. This is where you come in. We are reaching out for your assistance, by asking for your support. Any donation, no matter the size will put us a step closer to our goal needed to break ground in the summer. The H.O.P.E Community Center will provide a computer center for those individuals in need of a supportive place for assistance with homework, tutoring with assignments and school courses. They will also have computer access for research, access for those that don’t have computers at home, or if you’re just looking to strengthen your knowledge on computers. There will be other computer classes available in the future for adults as well. There will be a recreational center for the youths to come and meet and interact with others in fun learning activities. Our goal is to provide as many resources and activities as possible to keep our youth progressing forward with their education and goals they have set for themselves. These activities will be held year round at the center for everyone in the community that would benefit. The main objective is to keep participants minds occupied with activity to keep them off the streets. We want to help these youth to strengthen and build their knowledge so that they are able to build a strong foundation for their future. The youth may come to the Center to play pool, ping pong, fuse ball, and listen to music. They will also have the opportunity to participate in organized games and other activities such as tumbling, hip hop, dance, and karate. The Center will have a Food Pantry for the community. Where individuals will be able to come and get assistance with food for their families. We will be delivering food to the elderly in the community that can’t make it to the center. There will be a school pantry, where the youths will be able to come and get food for the weekends. We will continue our lunch program for the youths where they can come and get lunch every day during the summer. The Pantry will also be serving hot meals throughout the year (especially holidays) on a regular basis for the homeless and those in need in the community.
This was the vision of Mother A.M. Smith, the founder of Community Holiness Church to see that the people in the community needs were met. Now it is the desire of the current Pastor, Elder Kenneth Cheatham along with the members of the church and North Star Center of Excellence to see that the vision is fulfilled by providing and meeting the needs of the community and abroad.
