BENEFITING: Colon Cancer Coalition Foundation
EVENT DATE: Jan 08, 2015
In the past 3 years, we have lost two amazing people way too soon to battles with colon cancer.
Matthew Myron was a dear friend of mine who passed away a week after his 29th birthday. I had known Matt since preschool and his love for life and for all people was inspiring. He never complained about his sickness and instead tried to focus all his attention on being a good friend to all. He made me want to be a better person all around with the way he lived his life, to the fullest, to the very end.
Shirley Cornelius passed away this past December, and Shirley was like a second mother to me. Her love for the Lord and her trust in His plans for her was astounding and inspiring. She never complained, and instead talked of how good God was to her and how He was helping her deal with the struggles and pain she was going through. As a dear friend to her son, I know how much family meant to her and how she desired to keep her family and friends positive and happy with God's plans, even if they meant her no longer being in this world. Now she is one of His angels, looking down on us from heaven.
These two individuals were more inspiring than anyone I have ever met. They encouraged me to be a better person, to love more, to live more, to give all my struggles up to God and without complaining...they were true soldiers of Christ! My goal is to run the biggest challenge I have ever attempted in my running...a four day weekend with a 5k on Thursday, a 10k on Friday, a Half Marathon on Saturday, and a Full Marathon on Sunday. I know this will be a difficult journey, but I want to run for a cause, and the cause is the Colon Cancer Coalition, in honor of both Matthew and Shirley. Please consider helping me reach my goal of $5000, and also know that every single dollar helps, and is an encouragement to me!
