The Panama Project
Organized by: Heather Wroten
EVENT DATE Dec 14, 2014
I am going to Panama with a group of 18 graduate students in the School of Social Work at Cal State San Bernardino to volunteer! We will be working with an organization called Maranatha. As a Maranatha Volunteer, I will have an opportunity to build schools, churches, and health clinics, while educating and serving the community in Panama.
If you know me, you know how exciting this opportunity is. I love international travel and I love doing service projects. The money I raise will go towards supplies we need while building: tool belts, gloves, paint, hardhats, masks, information session materials, small goodies for families such toothbrushes, food, etc. It will also help fund my flight and lodging while I am there.
The Social Work Department encourages its students to independently seek opportunities to employ their knowledge in practical settings. In the field of social work, students are committing themselves to cultural competency and the willingness to learn a new connection with a foreign community. Maranatha Volunteer International will provide a framework for students to learn and interact with the community in Panama, in the Spanish language.
Anything helps. Thank you for your support.
