BENEFITING: THREEFOLD EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION & SCHOOL
EVENT: The Pfeiffer Center Interns
EVENT DATE: Dec 31, 2013
The Pfeiffer Center’s internship program is one of our greatest contributions to biodynamic agriculture. Up to five people at a time commit a year to intensive work and study with our Director Mac Mead and Head Gardener Megan Durney.
Much more than typical farm apprenticeships, Pfeiffer Center interns learn not just the methods of biodynamics, but the underlying principles too, because group study and classroom time are integral to the program.
With staff teaching time and housing, the cost to us is almost $26,000 per intern each year – an expense that is funded mostly through donations and with some revenue from other activities. Our interns’ accomplishments after they leave here make that a very sound investment for the future of farming in America.
The money we raise here will fully fund the balance of our costs to run the 2014 intern program.
Our internship program provides valuable – and unique – training. We prepare committed people to make a difference in forward-looking agricultural and social endeavors.
“What I truly learned during my time at the Pfeiffer Center was that farming is a conduit for reconnecting communities, healing the earth and restoring humanity.” MaryAnn Martinez, 2011-12 intern, now the head farmer at Colchester Neighborhood Farm in Plympton, MA, a certified organic farm that provides meaningful employment for adults with developmental disabilities.
"During my time in Chestnut Ridge I deepened my knowledge of anthroposophy and made long lasting karmic connections, both which accompany me during my journey." Luis Feliciano, 2006 intern, currently running Miel Farm, Auburn, ME.
Did you know?
In 2012, the many friends of The Pfeiffer Center raised more than $86,000 through Kickstarter to fence and expand our newly-named Molina Field and to restore our old dairy barn. The barn's foundation was unstable and the wooden siding was badly decayed.
It took almost a year to carefully renovate the barn, which is now a very sound, functioning - and beautiful! - building that serves as the heart of our program and is a source of great pride in our community..
