Our Mission

Improving quality of life for the people of Pittsburgh by restoring the park system to excellence in partnership with government and the community. Projects and programs are conducted with respect for the environment, historic design, and the needs of our diverse region.

The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is a non-profit organization which works in a public-private partnership with the City of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1996 to address the rapid deterioration of our city's public parks, the Conservancy has raised more than $80 million to benefit the restoration, programming, and maintenance of Pittsburgh's treasured green spaces. This work includes the restoration of more than 7 miles of trails throughout Pittsburgh's regional parks.

The organization is celebrated for its historically based restoration projects which include the Frick Park Gatehouse at Reynolds Street, the Highland Park Entry Garden, the Walled Garden at Mellon Park, the Riverview Chapel Shelter, and the return of Schenley Plaza from a parking lot in Oakland.

In 2014, our volunteers turned out in record-breaking numbers. Nearly 2,000 volunteers donated more than 6,500 hours. The planted hundreds of trees, thousands of flowers and removed countless bags of invasive species. They stablized hillsides, removed litter and cleared trails. Our volunteers plant only native plants and trees resistant to current threats in the parks in order to promote biodiversity and healthy tree canopy.

Your support of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is an investment in the environmental and economic health of our City and region.
