BENEFITING: CHILDREN OF CHINA PEDIATRICS FOUNDATION-PSC-
EVENT DATE: Mar 15, 2014
We provide direct treatment for disabled children in China's orphanages. Children with disabilities who live in orphanages in China rely on their caregivers to educate them and teach them how to do all the activities of daily living. Many of these wonderful children will not be adopted or receive the education and training they need (see NYT article: http://sinosphere.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/11/04/disabled-chinese-struggle-for-a-good-education-and-acceptance/?_r=0)
Oftentimes children require specialized therapy and there are no therapists to provide treatment in most orphanages. It is estimated that there is one therapist per million people in China. The caregivers in the orphanages are trying to do their best to provide good care but they need specialized training and education to help these children. We have assembled a team of therapists and therapy students (OT & PT) to help educate the caregivers in two orphanages in China. We have partnered with a non-profit agency to access the orphanages. We will be visiting and teaching in a university that trains therapists, and teaching them in more advanced skills. We will be in the cities of Chongqing, Fuling, and Chengdu. We know how much we are needed, but now we need help with getting there, paying for needed equipment, and for paying our interpreters!
See the non-profit that helps us do good this good work.
