BENEFITING: Wish of a Lifetime
Zeta R. is an affectionate 86 year old woman living in Castle Rock, CO. She grew up with 13 siblings on a farm in Canada where there was no electricity and a long walk to school. To say that family is an important part of Zeta’s life would be an understatement; family is fundamental in her life. Zeta’s Wish of a Lifetime is to visit her family back home in Kingston, Canada – specifically, to visit her niece, who is currently battling cancer; a fate Zeta lost one of her sons to 10 years ago.
Upon becoming a mother, Zeta dedicated herself to her children, providing them with things she didn't have as a child. One of her sons was born with a condition which took his eyesight at an early age, so Zeta committed herself to support him in any way she could. He graduated high school valedictorian and went on to become a missionary in Chile. Zeta currently suffers from a voice disorder that makes it difficult for her to speak. Before struggling with this disorder, Zeta enjoyed singing in her church – which she continues to do, although she lip-syncs. She’s never been the type of woman to let anything stop her and she’s always worked hard – if there’s a way, she’ll find it.
While it is incredibly important to Zeta to see her niece, she also feels strongly about being there to support her sister (her niece’s mother). Wish of a Lifetime will be sending Zeta and her daughter to Kingston, Canada this January so that she can reconnect with her family while providing support to those she loves most.
