Ginny Atwood, Allison Byers, Katie Ernst and Amanda Thoburn are doing something a little crazy in memory of our beloved brother and friend, Chris Atwood. We are actually going to run the Marine Corps Marathon!! That is a whole 26.2 miles. For those of you that know us well you will understand that we are not those ultra fit "runner people" that you would expect to do something like this. We are just four average, pizza-loving girls in our mid twenties. We are all so excited, and totally terrified! But I can't think of a better way to show our love for Chris.
Chris passed away in February from a drug overdose. There is no way to sugar-coat that. It is just the gut-wrenching reality of the ugly disease called addiction. Make no mistake, it truly is a disease and it takes over the mind and body of even the strongest people. Chris was an intelligent, caring, creative and extraordinarily gifted person. He is missed more intensely and by more people than he could ever have imagined. He impacted so many lives in his short time here, particularly with his knack for helping other struggling addicts. The goal of the Chris Atwood Foundation is to continue to spread his legacy of love and support.
We run this marathon for two things - to commemorate the incredible life of Chris Atwood, but also to create a path for the future, to lay down the road to recovery for other addicts, so that together, mile by mile, for as long as it takes, we can fight addiction with endurance.
