"Education for the Next Generation"

The School of Advancement's mission is to help the underrepresented, under-served, rural, and individuals from low socioeconomic status enter into business or technology positions.

We assist our adult students with training and job placement. Our training is focused on helping the student obtain entry level front end web design positions. We provide 3 years minimum of job support after the student graduates.

We provide after school and accelerated learning opportunities to our high school students. 10 different science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) including; FIRST Robotics, the Solar Powered Car Challenge, SeaPerch (underwater robotics), and the Global Space Balloon Challenge.

We also offer tutoring, business acumen (soft skills training), collegiate and career planning.

The funding will support the School of Advancement to work in conjunction with the statewide after school networks, secondary and middle schools to increase STEM literacy, skills, opportunities, to compete on the state and national level (with FIRST Robotics as the primary outlet for engagement), while providing mentoring (with industry partners from Boeing, Robert Bosch, Showa Denko, and other firms), networking and memberships in national organizations.

This project will include: 1) working statewide with after school networks to share STEM education best practices; 2) hosting a STEM, accelerated academics, and business conference with stakeholders (including government officials); 3) provide students with authentic workplace practices, team projects, and travel experiences; 4) developing and disseminating information on successful elements of curriculum and pedagogy to help students obtain a sustainable competitive advantage entering into college or the workforce.

Community Emergency Response Team (in conjunction with Tri-County CERT)

April 2016, the School of Advancement will proudly host classes for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) certification.

Classes are conducted by certified first responders through the Lowcountry CERT program.

CERT educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Using training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT volunteers can assist others in their community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

CERT volunteers are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking an active role in emergency preparedness projects.

Teen CERT (Community Emergency Response Team | Harry Sosa)

Teen CERT Explorer is a year round program that educates young adults about emergency preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
