For the last 10 years The Veterans Green Bus has been around the country helping after natural disasters from Hurricane Katrina to Sandy. When The Veterans Green Bus ( We cal her Large Marge ) is not responding to natural a disaster, she is used to transport and train veterans on how to use sustainable energy solutions to fuel vehicles, generators and entire businesses. They have weatherized thousands of homes in Colorado to repairing and constructing new homes in New Orleans to building historic log cabins New Mexico.
We are now in Detroit, MI. Our mission here is in support of Motor City Blight Busters effort to marshal volunteers, business owners and city officials to address effects of blight community by community.
Detroit is the largest American City (129 square miles) to go through Bankruptcy. Until last year, it could not keep the lights on.
For the last year the crew of the Veterans Green Bus and members of United Peace Relief. INC staff have been working with Motor City Blight Busters to incorporate the same training models we use for responding to natural disasters and apply them to their efforts to clean up blight.
The idea of converting the slow place of the Clean up in Detroit to a training model a boot camp for disaster changes the dynamics and economics of funding the clean up.
Sustainable disaster response or sustainable living is the chicken or the Egg question of life. What comes first is your choice.
We are raising money to buy tires, build roof racks, install more solar panels, large scale inverter, diesel generator, incinerating toilet, sink, fresh and grey water tanks, sail boat type galley. in that order. However much money we raise will go to the next item on the priorities list.
