BENEFITING: THE WALKABOUT FOUNDATION
On Oct 5th, President Bill Clinton, Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez hosted the premiere of "The Way" to raise funds and awareness for the Walkabout Foundation.
Every cent that we raised will be distributed by the Walkabout Foundation to purchase wheelchairs for people in need around the world, particularly in countries such as Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Sudan, Argentina and Colombia.
The important thing is to make sure that we don’t let the spirit of last night disappear.
Luis Gonzalez-Bunster, who is paraplegic himself, and his sister Carolina launched the Walkabout Foundation with an 870 kilometer walk along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela - otherwise known as "The Way of St. James" - in Spain in August 2009. Luis became the first person in the history of Spain to cross the entire country using only the strength of his two arms.
After a fortuitous encounter between Walkabout's founders and the filmmakers of "The Way," a very special relationship was born. The parallels between the film's script and the Walkabout Foundation's story were too powerful to ignore.
Walkabout Foundation donates RoughRider wheelchairs, which are exclusively designed for the rough and rugged terrain of the developing world. The all-terrain wheelchairs are made of bicycle tubing and are therefore locally repairable. The chairs are light, foldable and durable and allow for a bespoke and custom fit.
Please help us realize the dream of those millions of individuals who hope to walk again. Your generous donation is very much appreciated.
