BENEFITING: Digital Democracy

EVENT DATE: May 04, 2012

THE STORY:

An online fundraiser to complement "The Way We See It - Indianapolis" art show held on First Friday, May 4, at the Athenaeum ArtSpace

"The Way We See It" was a huge success in regards to advocacy and awareness during May's First Friday gallery tour!
IndyStar listed it as one of the "five events that are fun and have the potential to change the city" and NUVO listed it as an "essential destination this month" ...and even if you missed it, you can still be part of it!

Unfortunately a thunderstorm took away some of our enthusiasm, and we didn't reach our goal for Digital Democracy.
Ways you can help me reach my goal, help out a local artist, support an advocacy non-profit, AND help these women in Haiti:

-- Donate to this fundraiser page, 100% goes to Dd

-- Write a check directly to "Digital Democracy" (msg me)
-- Buy a Haiti-inspired oil painting from Kevin Smola, 50% goes directly to Dd (www.smolaart.com)
-- Pledge to have your kids hold a lemonade stand benefiting Dd

"The Way We See It" highlighted KOFAVIV and other GBV groups' reality through their own eyes.  Digital Democracy is empowering these victims of gender-based violence to amplify their voices through photography and technology (such as a call center and digitized database of rape reports). Dd was founded in 2008 by Indianapolis native Emily Jacobi.  I've personally worked directly with the Dd team and visited the KOFAVIV safe-home site in Christ Roi, Haiti.

If we can raise $7000 before the show comes down on May 25 then Digital Democracy can engage and empower another marginalized community through technology and photography
