The Wood's In the jungle
Organized by: David and Beth Wood
EVENT DATE Aug 31, 2015
First, our hearts:
(explanation of funding needs afterward)
First of all let me just say, GERONIMO! What a crazy, beautiful, and exciting adventure we are about to go on. David had a chance to go and serve in Belize two years ago, and the people there have never left his heart. After leaving the Air Force in 2012 we knew that Fall 2015 was going to be a big moment in the story of our lives. (For those that don't know, David has been using the GI bill to go to school, and is now done with that) For the past three years we have been seeking God's will for this transition time, and we have heard God's call in our lives to move to Central America to Punta Gorda, Belize.
We will be ministering to the Belizian people in many ways including: the Machaca Camp, Boneville Church, and Boneville Cafe. Throughout the year there is a discipleship program that we will be closely involved with that encourages Belizians and Americans alike to fix their eyes on Christ and grow in their relationship with the Lord. It is a beautiful place where the Holy Spirit is moving and changing the nation of Belize.
The Machaca Camp is an awesome place in the jungle of Belize, which is where we would be living. It is a place during summer where the children of Belize, from Primary school to Secondary school, can get three warm meals a day, a nice soft bed at night, and a chance to get loved on and to hear the Word of God. They get sent out after their week at camp with a backpack full of school supplies, full bellies, wonderful memories, and the knowledge that they are beautiful and loved by God!
The Boneville Church meets at the beautiful hotel where Machaca serves, right on the beach in Punta Gorda. It is a place where the community of Punta Gorda can fellowship and worship together on the balcony of the hotel looking over the ocean. Another opportunity that we will have in Belize is the Boneville Cafe, which is located at the hotel. If you know Beth then you know that she LOVES coffee, and she will have an opportunity to serve the locals doing something she loves to do... Coffee. (insert happy dance here) ;)
There are many other ministries that we will be involved with and launching as we continue on this exciting journey, which we will be sharing with you all through our yet to come blog, facebook, and newsletter as we go along!
This Crowdrise campaign is about more than money. God will provide all we need and more. This is about being a part of what God is doing at Machaca. If you are unable to support us finiancially we absolutely understand, but we would LOVE your spiritual warfare support (prayer). In every way, that is much more important than money.
We want you to know how much we understand that you guys (the senders) are just as equally important as us who are going. We cannot do this without your support! We will need ongoing monthly financial support, encourgement, and so much prayer! If you feel God calling you to support us financially on a monthly basis, please send us a message and we can get you that information. :)
Thank you so much, friends, in advance, for your love and support of the Wood family as we embark on this adventure. It is crazy and scary but oh so exciting!! God is doing big things in Belize, and we can hardly wait to be a part of it!
And now the money details:
Our frst BIG goal of $9,200 inludes the following-
~Airfare for the 5 of us TWICE, including baggage fees (well once roundtrip, once one way) We would love to go for an initial 'settling in' period for about 6 weeks, come home for a few weeks to recharge, share with people what God is doing there, get the things we need that we can't get in Belize, etc., and then God willing go back for a long term mission)
~Passport and visa fees
~Crowdrise charges only 3% of what is donated, the majority of other fundraising websites charge 8% after all fees. This needed to be accounted for so that we would not be short after the money comes in.
~The funding we would need to live at the camp for one month
If we don't raise enough for two trips there, we will need $5,200 just to get there and live for one month. After the first month we'll need monthly support to stay there.
Any amount raised over and above the larger total will go to our monthly costs required to live at Machaca.
In His grip,
David, Beth, Lilah, Hanna, and Evelyn Wood
"Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this; He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noon day sun."
