As many of you know, I have worked in marketing/communications at PENCIL for almost two years, witnessing all the "write" reasons why our work is so impactful and transformative for the public education system in New York City.
Consider these "write" reasons to "pencil" in $20 for our 20th anniversary:
1. Only 26% of American high school students graduated ready for college in the four core subjects last year. PENCIL helps students become college-bound and career-ready through year-long school-business partnerships.
2. New York City public high school students receive ONLY 38 minutes with a college counselor each year. PENCIL provides mentoring opportunities for high school students with the business community through PENCIL Fellows, an internship program for New York City public high school students.
3. Only 25% of American teenagers were in the workforce last year, and only 17% of black American teenagers were employed. Through the PENCIL Fellows program, high-achieving, low-income New York City public high school students gain career skills through paid, six-week summer internships at top companies throughout the city.
So there you have it: Three "write" reasons to "pencil" in a small donation to make a big change.
