I began working in the Youth Café in 2012 when it was a brand new program idea where I worked as a youth leader. We begin inside my local church launching a program that worked with low income and at risk youth in our community to mentor them in school and give them a safe place to be for a few hours during the week. As my involvement expanded I became a program coordinator an with my undergraduate studies in health and wellness I established a tutoring program as well nutritional and recreational components to the program. With my departure from the city for a year the program had closed due to be underfunded. I am now taking on the program as Program Director because the frequent expression from neighborhood kids wanting the program to open. So, I am determined to re-launch the program and with the assistance of many volunteers and financial assistance reach many more youth in the community. What We Need & What You Get The goal is to raise $5000 for the program. The funding will go to several different aspects of the program: * Gas in transportation to pick up youth in other low income neighborhoods. * Funding towards monthly education outings for the youth. * Funding towards food purchase for meals for children at every program meeting. * Funding for teaching materials and educational materials for the youth who cannot afford planners, etc. The Impact I am a firm believer that the youth are our future, We cannot wait until they are dropping out of schools, or acting in crimes to care about the impact that they have on society. Our program aims to reach the youth at a young age and instil morals and values in them and prepare them for a future that consist of education and being productive people in society.
