THE STORY:

My name is Nathan Richard, a local Louisiana Volunteer Firefighter in Thibodaux. I have over 15 years of fire servic with Protector Fire Company #2 Two years ago while sitting with a friend of mine at his local fire house, we realized that we had little in to memorialize 9/11 and the first responders who lost their lives that day. we began to research on how different cities across the country pay their respects to remember this tragic day. We stumbled upon the New Orleans 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and was in awe of this ever. This is a sanctioned event through the Association of Memorial Stair Climbs represented everything I envisioned. After making a few phone calls, We had confidence that the AMSC shared our same values. We joined the AMSC, and the New Orleans 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in their first year in 2016. The climb is NOT a race, but a way to reflect on what those heroes went through on that day. It is a mental, emotional, and physical way to remember the selfless act of 343 firefighters, 70 law enforcement officers and 9 EMT's who made the ultimate sacrifice. We climb 110 floors, the exact height of the former World Trade Center Twin Towers, wearing full gear. Each participant that climbs wears a badge of a fallen hero and rings a bell in their honor when they are finished. NEW ORLEANS WILL NEVER FORGET! The New Orleans Stair Climb is an non-profit organization and rely heavily on donations and sponsorships. Money raised from our event is donated to the Louisiana Heroes Project for our selected beneficiaries. The donations stay in Louisiana and is directed to families of Louisiana first responders killed in the line of duty. The 2016 recipient families were NOPD Officer Natasha Hunter and St John Fire District Chief Spencer Chauvin. Myself and 8 others will be representing Team Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department, please help donate to a great cause. Be a hero to a hero, one step at a time.
