A lot of us have been affected in one way or another by cancer, either directly or somewhere within our families. When my Mum was only 49 she passed away at far too young an age after battling breast cancer. Over 20 years later I still see this disease affecting my friends, friends' parents and even friends' children.
So this year I am running the TCS New York City Marathon on November 5th and am looking to raise $3000 (or more) for Think Pink Rocks, which raises money for two of the world's leading cancer research institutions, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the Breast Oncology Center at the University of Michigan.
This is definitely something I feel like I owe to my Mum, and also to every other friend and person I know who has suffered from or is fighting against some form of cancer.
Cancer research is making big strides with early detection, from basic blood screening right through to genetic testing and treatment of cancer, and with continued funding and support I am positive we'll keep advancing in the fight and keep finding ways to cure more and more cancers, through earlier detection and new treatments, until we know a way to prevent and stop this disease.
So if you would like to see me looking twice as exhausted and red in the face as in the above (2nd) pic - (that was just the Queens 10k, I have to do another 20 miles ontop of that!) - please dig deep and sponsor me to run in the 2017 TCS NYC Marathon! Thank you in advance for supporting me running for this cause.
*Here is a little more information about the Charity I'm running for...
Think Pink Rocks is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness about early detection of and genetic testing for breast cancer and to provide funding for screening, treatment and research.
Did you know:
• A woman's risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer is greatly increased if she carries the BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation (Breast Cancer gene mutation).
• Men with these mutations also have an increased risk of breast and prostate cancer. Our team will raise money and awareness for breast cancer research.
All money raised for Think Pink Rocks from the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon will benefit breast cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and the Breast Oncology Center at the University of Michigan. Some members of our team have a direct connection to breast cancer, but we also have many team members who are running or walking simply because they want to support a great cause.
Think Pink Rocks is a 501 (c) (3) organization. Contributions to Think Pink Rocks are tax deductable to the extent allowable by law.
Please note - we encourage everyone to join our fundraising team for this great cause. Howevering, joining our fundraising team does not provide you a spot in the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon unless you have corresponded with and received confirmation of your spot directly from our team captain. For more information on how to join our team for the race, please email rich at email@example.com.
