I'm running the NYC Half to honor my mom, JoAnn M., who was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2015, and the many other wonderful ladies in my life that have fought breast cancer like champs - Diane D., Susan D., Rossana S., Laura K., Ellen D., as well as so many others. My goal is not to just raise money for Memorial Sloan Kettering, one of the best cancer hospitals in the world located right here in NYC, but to primarily RAISE AWARENESS about early detection and treatment and to bring HOPE to others. I encourage each of you wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, friends to please remind your loved ones to stay on top of their breast cancer screenings (see more detailed info below).
Also, if you know someone battling breast cancer or any kind of cancer for that matter, offer to lend a hand or say a prayer. I've seen first hand what this horrible disease can do to a family but no one has seen it's effects more than my Dad while caring for my mom. Dad, you are my hero. I've never seen anyone care for a person the way you have cared for mom. My parents' strength and perserverance are so encouraging. Please make a point to encourage others around you battling cancer. Take time to let them know you care. Encouragement brings HOPE and HOPE is the only way you can beat this disease.
-"For I know the plans I have for you, "declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a future.
Think Pink Rocks is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness about early detection of and genetic testing for breast cancer and to provide funding for screening, treatment and research.
Did you know:
• A woman's risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer is greatly increased if she carries the BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation (Breast Cancer gene mutation).
• Men with these mutations also have an increased risk of breast and prostate cancer. Our team will raise money and awareness for breast cancer research.
The money raised for Think Pink Rocks from the NYC Half 2015 will benefit breast cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where Think Pink Rocks has established a dedicated breast cancer research fund, as well as at the Breast Oncology Center at the University of Michigan, in addition to providing funding for treatment.
Some members of our team have a direct connection to breast cancer, but we also have many team members who are running or walking simply because they want to support a great cause.
Think Pink Rocks is a 501 (c) (3) organization. Contributions to Think Pink Rocks are tax deductable to the extent allowable by law.
Thanks for your support!
