EVENT: NYC Half 2011
EVENT DATE: Mar 20, 2011
We both saw first-hand how devastating breast cancer is. My sister, Dana’s aunt, Dorothy passed away from breast cancer 4 years ago at the young age of 48. Dorothy was an amazing person who fought hard for 12 years to beat this deadly disease so she could raise her three small children. Her doctors called her their miracle. While she fought the good fight and succeeded in raising three amazing kids, she ultimately succumbed to this horrible disease. It was a huge loss for all who knew her. The reality is, there are far too many Dorothy’s out there.
So, how could I not run? Dorothy’s immeasurable strength and courage inspires me. I am one of the lucky ones; I’m healthy and fully capable of doing my small part. I run not only to raise money for this cause but to raise awareness of its catastrophic effects on both the person with the disease and the family they leave behind. I think of Dorothy every single day and I will be thinking about her as I run this race and I know she will be with me rooting me on!
Thank you for your support!

We are a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness about early detection of and genetic testing for breast cancer and to provide funding for screening, treatment and research. Did you know: • A woman's risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer is greatly increased if she carries the BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation (Breast Cancer gene mutation). • Men with these mutations also have an increased risk of breast and prostate cancer. Our team will raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. All money raised for Think Pink Rocks from the New York City Half-Marathon will benefit breast cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Some members of our team have a direct connection to breast cancer, but we also have many team members who are running or walking simply because they want to support a great cause.Think Pink Rocks is a 501 (c) (3) organization. Contributions to Think Pink Rocks are tax deductable to the extent allowable by law.
PLEASE NOTE - WE ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO JOIN OUR FUNDRAISING TEAM FOR THIS GREAT CAUSE. HOWEVER, JOINING OUR FUNDRAISING TEAM DOES NOT PROVIDE YOU A SPOT IN THE NYC HALF-MARATHON UNLESS YOU HAVE CORRESPONDED WITH AND RECEIVED CONFIRMATION DIRECTLY FROM RICH OR STEPHANIE AT THINK PINK ROCKS. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON HOW TO JOIN OUR TEAM FOR THE RACE, PLEASE EMAIL STEPHANIE AT MSR21498@COMCAST.NET.
