EVENT DATE: Mar 20, 2011
Hey Friends and Family!
I am running in the 2011 NYC Half Marathon on March 20 for charity. This is my first half marathon and I am super excited but more so because while I run those 13 miles (OH BOY!) I will be doing it for a cause and someone that is super-close to my heart -- my stepmom, Sharon Kulikowski.
Sharon passed away in May 1999 after a five-year battle with breast cancer. To see someone suffer who had such vitality and love of life, love for her family and her friends and, of course, who could forget her crazy stunts and jokes was truly heartbreaking. I have also had numerous other family members hit with this disease as well.
This year, I am running as part of the Team Think Pink Rocks and all of the donations that we give will go to breast cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Please support me! Hopefully this small contribution will help researchers one day find a cure for breast cancer.
Thank you all!
THINK PINK ROCKS is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness about early detection of and genetic testing for breast cancer and to provide funding for screening, treatment and research.
Did you know:
- A woman's risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer is greatly increased if she carries the BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation (Breast Cancer gene mutation).
- Men with these mutations also have an increased risk of breast and prostate cancer.
- Our team will raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. All money raised for Think Pink Rocks from the New York City Half-Marathon will benefit breast cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
