I will not be in Zimbabwe, but I know deep in my heart that I ought to play a part and I fully support the peaceful efforts that those in line of fire have and will continue to put. I am also cognissant of the fact that the regime is brutal. Some people will be arrested, some people will be injured and many will require food and health assistance. I am starting this fund because I know there are many people in the Diaspora who have the same views as mine. Some have been asking how they can help just to show moral support to those on the ground. On 2 June 2003 then as a Student leader at UZ, during the Final Push we intended to march to the State House, we were confronted by the regime and many of us were injured and some lost their lives. What pained me more was that, even though we were trying to do it for the country; at the end of it we had to face our own medical bills. This should not happen. It is with this in mind that I call upon fellow Zimbabweans to donate just $1. The money will be used for emergencies, legal assistance and for ongoing logistical needs. ACCOUNTABILITY - I am in touch with trusted activists on the ground in Zimbabwe and I am trying to work out a mechanism of distribution that is transparent - I have also reached out to respectable members of society in and outside of the country to be the ultimate watchdog of how this would be handled - I will be posting updates daily and all shall be able to see how much has been raised online - Finally, I believe that we shouldn't suspend hunting until weighing scale is found. We have a job to do!
