Becca Stevens and the women of Magdalene/Thistle Farms have inspired me over the last 15 years by doing the important work of healing through the power of Love and acceptance. This is going to be a very special evening. Please help us make the Thistle Stop Cafe a reality. -- Desmond Child
On April 11, top pop and country songwriters Desmond Child and Marcus Hummon will host and perform at an event to raise funds for Thistle Farms' latest venture, The Thistle Stop Cafe. "Broadway Babies" will feature the Broadway songbooks of Desmond and Marcus. Learn further details about the event here.
THISTLE STOP CAFE
The Thistle Stop Cafe will open in the fall of 2012. A cafe run by the women of Magdalene/Thistle Farms - residents and graduates who have survived prostitution, trafficking and addiction. Magdalene is a two-year residential program for the women; Thistle Farms is where the women hand make natural body care products. Thistle Stop Cafe will sell coffee, teas and healthy baked goods and be located adjacent to the manufacturing facility for Thistle Farms. The goals of the cafe are to be a training ground for the women of Thistle Farms, giving them skills in the restaurant and food-serving businesses. We also want the cafe to be great meeting, event and live music venue for the community.
If you can't be at the April 11th event, but would like to support Desmond and Marcus in raising funds for the building of this cafe, here is how!
We need to raise $20,000 for start-up costs for the following:
- 2 Bathrooms (compliant w/ American Disabilities Act) - $12,000
- Commercial 3-Compartment Sink - $2,200.00
- New Entrance for Building - $5,000.00
- Tables for Cafe - $800.00
Making a contribution here will directly support the employment of women recovering from a life-time of abuse, violence and homelessness.
