Thomas Family Pad
Organized by: adrian burton
Hi, My name is Adrian Burton and I am a Florida resident, however, this campaign is for my dear friends the Thomas family in Philadelphia, PA. I am trying to help my friends raise money to remodel a home that will truly accomodate the needs of aging family members.
This is the Thomas' story:
At the age of 59 my Mom was diagnosis with Breast Cancer. She would not have known had it not been for a family friend who works in the medical field asking her did she get her Mammogram? He really saved her LIFE! At the time I was not as knowledgeable as I am now so, all I could do was cry when I would hear the words "Breast Cancer." That is where my friend Mattie who experienced this already twice, came in & gave me the strength and knowledge I needed to get thru that medical situation. I truly came to understand what " KNOWLEDGE IS POWER" means. After that, with many questions and answers ,we got thru the first bout of Breast Cancer. Mattie, a survivor herself, let me know that a person can live with Breast Cancer, and I will never forget the loving kindness she to me and my family. She drove all the way from Seaford, DE, at the time and I drove down from Philadelphia, PA to meet her. That was one of the most enlightening trips I had ever taken. After that it was trips back and forth from Philadelphia to Dover, DE. As we all know cancer can return with a vengeance...and it came back but, the 2nd time my Mother is at the age of 78. Studies have shown that as a result of Chemotherapy, some Breast Cancer Survivors are being diagnosed with Dementia. If this is true , my Mother now has Breast Cancer along with Dementia. Because of the Dementia, she cannot live alone. We decided to relocate her to live with us in Philadelphia. We bought a home but we need major help to renovate, which is very visible in this picture. It needs a complete renovation from the basement to the roof. We need financial help so that we can relocate Mommy to live with us. We felt that it would be nice for her to have her own Bedroom and Bathroom. She is currently taking Chemotherapy but it is an oral treatment.
This is a short story but as we all know the journey is a long road ahead.
We need $$ for materials, contractors with expertise, free labor, whatever you can give, etc. Donated materials will be accepted, as well. The house is located at 551 E Locust Ave, Philadelphia, PA. Anything anyone could do to assist us in speeding along this project will save more $$ in the longrun and make for an extremely coordinated work-life balance. Thank You, in advance for any consideration.
