BENEFITING: BEADS OF COURAGE
EVENT DATE: Aug 28, 2011
RUNNING FOR BEADS OF COURAGE - PROVIDING BEADS OF HOPE
Beads of Courage supports children who are being treated for a serious illness. Every bead the child receives tells a story of strength, honor and hope. Through this program, children tell their story using colorful beads as meaningful symbols of courage that commemorate milestones they have achieved along their unique treatment path.
For our Jack, those milestones included chemotherapy, surgeries, hospital visits, lots of needle pokes, medicines and more. These beads meant the world to Jack and provided an enormous incentive to focus on getting through some of the most painful and challenging medical experiences one can endure. Jack's beads remind us all of us of the bravery and courage we often need to overcome life's greatest obstacles.
Jack was so touched by this program that we believe we need to give back. This program provided so much support to Jack and our family. We want to be sure that others can benefit from its power to focuses on resiliency and strength.
Melissa will be running the Batavia Half Madness Half Marathon at the end of August. This is her first half marathon. She is running for resiliency and she is running for courage. She is running to honor the strength of her sons and others who know the oncology experience deeply.
