Formerly known as the Incentive Mentoring Program, Thread engages many of Baltimore's most underperforming high school students confronting significant barriers outside of the classroom by providing each one with a family of committed volunteers - a Thread Family - dedicated to directly supporting the student and providing him or her with increased access to community resources - for 10 full years.
Thread's 700+ volunteers provide its students with three layers of support:
1. By being active agents in his or her life, often scheduling daily activities.
2. Connecting their students to Thread Resource Teams, which provide additional academic, college, and career support and offer team building and community service opportunities.
3. Connect students to community-wide resources such as pro bono housing, health, and legal support and internship and employment opportunities.
By weaving relationships that transcend barriers, Thread is impriving the social fabric of Baltimore.
